The term safari (meaning “journey” or “trip” in Swahili), is commonly associated with the great plains of southern Africa. But who said we can’t recreate the atmosphere of a real safari in Europe, somewhere in a remote part of Portugal? We think we can and that’s why we are so proud to announce a new partnership between Dream Overland and the Rewilding Portugal for the organisation of an exclusive safari in the Great Côa river valley.

The Côa is a tributary to the mighty Douro river and is one of the areas the Rewilding Portugal team is working on to re-establish the local ecosystems towards a wilder Portugal. Under this new partnership we will be offering a unique 4×4 expedition that not only discovers the best the region has to offer when explored by ancient tracks away from modern paved roads, but also supports the local communities and the rewilding efforts, in an almost savanah-like type of environment.

Since we will be travelling in motor vehicles, at the end of the trip we’ll make sure we off-set our environmental footprint and leave nothing behind but a trace of good citizenship and wonderful memories, following the applicable regulations and the Leave no Trace principles, which are so dear to us.
As soon as the conditions allow it, we’ll be going out again to discover one of Portugal’s remotest regions, so you better check for availability and reserve a spot on the next trip to this wonderful part of Portugal.
