Did you know we have some high mountains in Portugal? It may come as a surprise, but Portugal is a rather mountainous country, especially in the northern half. With the rigors of winter behind us, we’ll head for the mountains to appreciate the beautiful landscapes and the amazing colours and aromas of spring in full splendour. This trip will start on the northeast of the country and will go around some of the top-ten highest mountain ranges in mainland Portugal, passing through remote villages where time seem to have stopped and magical places where nature is still untouched. Altitudes along this trip will regularly go above 1000 mts (~3330 ft) and will reach a maximum of nearly 2000 mts (~6500 ft), at the very end, with numerous off-road tracks and mountain passes offering breathtaking views as far as the eye can see.
Along the way, we’ll exploring the culture, heritate, food and history of each region, and most of all, we’ll interact with local communities and learn about their way of life.
This trip will be on accommodation, so we’ll be staying in mountain retreats, countryside b&b’s, cozy wooden huts and the off campsite with bungalows, depending on the weather conditions and the location.
